Almost 2 years ago a group of MDA dentists (composed of general dentists and specialists, private practice and public health dentists, new and “more seasoned” dentists) met with a goal. That goal was to come up with a tool to help all MDA dentists do a better job with documentation, particularly related to medicaid compliance (but applicable to all documentation). After countless hours of work researching, debating and modifying they came up with it - the peer chart review for quality form.

To give you some background, this is a best-practice for maintaining medicaid compliance that is not really known about in the majority of private practices. If you talk with colleagues in public health, university settings or larger pediatric practices they would be familiar with the concept. The MDA form was designed to look at notes though the lens of medicaid compliance (because if you didn’t narrow it down the form would be really unwieldy) - you could include many other things on it for good documentation in general. The idea is for colleagues to go over each others chart notes and other documentation to help each other improve.

MDA members can sign in to access the Best Practices Peer Chart Review for Quality Forms from the Members area.
